How To Create A SEO-Friendly Web Site

By Cheryl L. True

Developing a search engine-friendly web site is critical to your business. If your web page is search engine-friendly, it will rank well for vital keywords and have higher traffic. Here are some suggestions to think about:

Don't make your web site solely on Flash technology. Flash technology will affect your search engine rankings. As an alternative, build a hybrid web site with ordinary text and a flash banner to make it more user-friendly.

Determine carefully the name of your pages and remember to make them search engine-friendly as well. One good way to do this is: "your-service.html". Sadly, there are some sites, notably e-commerce sites that call URLs this way: "index.php/?id=11&product=1&cat=3". This kind of URL is meaningless to search engines and will jeopardize your search engine optimization efforts.

Tag your pages with vital keywords. Place important key phrases in the Title, Meta, H1, Alt tags of your pages. Remember that your web site contains key phrases that prospects are seeking and there's no way it can get a high rank on search engines if those key phrases are not there.

Write related content. Related content will help you get high rankings on search engines. Search engines give what searchers are seeking. If search engines find that the content of your web site is not related to the keywords that you are using, your site won't stand out for those keywords.

Use clean coding. The coding of your site must be clean and simple. Keep the file size of every page less than 100KB so that search engine spiders can find it easily.

Designing a SEO-friendly web site is very important for the growth of your business. Without this, it's impossible for your site to get targeted search engine traffic that will bring you sales.
